Monarch/Mt. Princeton
Mt Princeton Soak & Ski Report
Well the Mt Princeton Soak & Ski trip is over, but fond memories will linger on. There were 16 people on the trip, sharing 4 cabins. Some of the group went into Salida to experience some of the galleries and local night life, and to have dinner. Others enjoyed dinner and drinks at the restaurant at the Mt Princeton lodge. Later that night a number of people enjoyed the Hot Springs Pools. Eight of us skied Monarch on Saturday. Initially, the ski conditions were packed powder, but we were blessed with about 3 inches of new snow during the course of the day. As a result, the conditions improved dramatically and all had a great time skiing. Saturday evening, Betty and Laurie hosted a delightful après ski party, where we also celebrated Elizabeth 's BIG 60 birthday. After the party, most of us made our way to the Hot Springs again, with the really adventurous ones heading for the natural hot springs in the river; what a great experience! Sunday, 10 of us went to St Elmo to Snow Shoe and Cross Country, while others went to Monarch to ski. Under beautiful pristine skies, the St Elmo group hiked up a couple of miles and then headed back to the trailhead where Jim Varner had skied back early to prepare left over Sloppy Joes from the night before. (Jim LaDoucieur's Sloppy Joes were a big hit - if you want the recipe visit our recipe page. We all tailgated for about an hour before heading home. The Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort was great. The cabins were excellent with good beds, pillows, giant towels, etc. We'd recommend it for anytime. |
